Watching the YouTube debates. I ran this utility. It returned: Kucinich, Gravel, Clinton, Obama
Fun stuff. I'm in Virginia. I should be coming home in a couple days.

I'm in Africa!
Yes. An African is I, according to the temporary residence sticker in my passport. While I have posted from here, I haven't posted about here.
We flew into Cape Town on the 29th. It took 26 hours. Ten to get from Atlanta to Amsterdam, 6 hour layover, and another ten to get to Cape Town. Blarg. My sleep hasn't been quite right since that.
On the 30th, the weather wasn't ideal, so our host took us on a tour of the wine country. We had lunch at a nice little restaurant and got some nifty pictures of the ocean. The next day, we went across to Robbin Island, where Mandela was imprisoned. Then, the next day, we went up to the top of Table Mountain and drove around the peninsula. We saw penguins, baboons, and, uh, seagulls. It was pretty awesome. I can't show you any of it, because I haven't been able to upload all the photos yet. But, rest assured, I will get them up eventually, and I will make a big deal about it when I do.
We then flew to Bloemfontein two days ago, where my dad will actually be speaking. We went to a star party, which was the first time I'd seen the sky of the southern hemisphere. It was phenomenally cold, and despite our attempts to bundle and layer, my mom and I were still freezing. My dad seemed fine, though. New England made him.
Yesterday, we were taken on a bizarre, uncomfortable tour of Bloemfontein. The standout was a nursing home, which was weird, then depressing. We did, however, visit a couple of museums: a contemporary art museum, a war museum, and the national museum. Those were alright.
And, now, I have to run.

Flickr Facebook Integration Undux
Uh, so. Apparently I didn't read the interface before I ruthlessly culled this application. Turns out, the place I was previously putting my username (alexdodge) now accepts the unique identifier that Flickr uses for me (7267036@N04.) With that bit of knowledge, everything works again. So, I'm back to using Erik Weiss's app.
Why am I back, when I said the new application was "snazzy", nay, "very snazzy?"
First, I appreciate the simple interface. When I go to update photos, there's only three text fields, and the instructions for using them are right there. ZuPort Flickr had over a page of options with javascript help popups, and I ended up leaving nearly all of them on their default setting.
Next, it doesn't try to awkwardly emulate browsing Flicker from within Facebook. It just throws up however many photos I want and acts as a gateway to the vast and inevitably disappointing world of my flickr photos.
Also, the photos are tiled without margins, which, to me, looks better.
Lastly, the author contacted me, which is super nifty. Seriously, super nifty.

Flickr Facebook Integration Redux
[Edit: See comments.]
So, sometime between when I wrote my previous post and today, the Flickr Facebook Application I suggested has stopped allowing me to update my photos. Also, I was wrong when I said that it could have automatic updating. So, I must sadly remove its grade of A- and replace it with an F. No points for effort. I don't play that game.
In accordance with my vows as an impartial user of software, I must now heartlessly cast aside my previous first choice, now dead to me, and replace it with my previous second choice, now my first choice.
First impressions: Very snazzy. Doesn't appear to be a one-man operation like the last one. I have high hopes.
(Oh right. Yes, I'm in Africa now. Yes, it's 2:15 in the morning here. Yes, I'm having fun. Yes, I'll post something soon. The bandwidth here is insufficient to upload photos. The 30 or so that are on Flickr now took six hours to upload. Expect photos after Tuesday.)
